Junk the Drill

I have been re-reading Lisa Pavelka's Complete Book of Polymer Clay and Donna Kato's The Art of Polymer Clay Millefiore Techniques and I kept going back to their tutorial on junk canes. I have lots of scrap clay and even though I don't have a lot of scrap canes, I wanted to try this technique. Basically you wrap your scrap canes (choose colors that you like and they all have to   relatively be the same length) and lay your scraps on a sheet of polymer clay. Once your scrap canes are laid out, you form it into a jelly roll of colorful scrap canes!

It sounded like something I could do and I really wanted to put my scrap canes to good use. I hate having clay just lying around! Some of my canes were really crumbly and too small to reduce, I think my junk cane also ended up looking too fat but its a good start :)

There it is! A slice of my junk cane. Wish I had more colorful canes that popped right out once you slice it.

I also had a drill bit that I kept for the longest time, waiting for me to make it into a proper tool. I got my scrap clay, covered it with the junk cane I just made and finally a drill tool I could use!

I will work on making it look less phallic-y next time! LOL. Happy weekend everyone :)
